Microtasks
Small, precisely defined pieces of work — a few seconds to a few minutes each — that a business needs done at volume and a person does better than software.
What it involves
- Categorising, checking, comparing or verifying something.
- Clear instructions with examples of right and wrong answers.
- Often a short qualification test before the paid work opens.
What gets rejected
Stated up front, because a rejection reason you only discover afterwards is not a standard, it is a trap.
- Answers that fail the embedded quality checks mixed into the batch.
- Rushing: completion times far below what the task can be done in.
- Ignoring an instruction that was stated in the brief.
What it pays
Individually small. The rate that matters is per hour of concentrated work, not per task, and the tasks worth doing are the ones where you are fast because you understand the brief. We show the reward and the estimated time so you can work that out before you start.
We do not publish an hourly figure for this or any other category. The honest answer depends on your country, your languages and what clients are asking for this week, and a number on a marketing page would be the best case dressed up as the typical one.
